About Teacher Amira

I worked in broadcast journalism for several years after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Journalism & Law in 2001.

After having my first daughter, I decided to stay home though I continued to freelance for various publications, as well as edit a local community newspaper.  My second daughter was born some time later.

In 2009, after experimenting with homeschooling following a deep immersion in the study of education, I joined Abraar School. My goal was then, and continues to be, to inspire enthusiasm, curiosity, and perseverance.

This year, as Homeroom teacher for the fifth grade, I am pleased to be working with both our Grade 5 & 6 students in the areas of Language, Social studies, Art (Grades 5 & 8), and Islamic Studies (Grade 5), to share with them my love of reading, writing, expression, and storytelling.  It will be a fabulous year, God willing!

Please feel free to contact me through the blog, or by email. You can also call me anytime at school.
